January 15, 2008
We are eyewitness of rapidly growing fragrance natural bath and body industry. But together with it emerges huge market of knockoffs and imitations. We every day face with problem how to distinguish original from fake products. Also, sometimes we are brought in temptation to buy knockoffs because of attractive price. This article tries to investigate in depth good and bad sides and face you with possible treats.
Designer fragrances are successful because each designer’s fragrance represents something special about them, their personality and taste of time. Many people today can relate to these designers in many ways by fashion or fragrance. Also good manufacturers of candles have made real artwork designing composition. Many fragrances come in pair with appropriate candles like Sud Pacifique perfumes. “The popularity of these items really reflects more of how people are feeling about their homes,” said Pam Danzinger, president and founder of Unity Marketing. Scented candles continue to be the first choice for home fragrance, but an expanding range of other products, including electric plug-ins, diffusers, scent disks, sprays, potpourri, incense, and bed linen spray are behind the rapid pace of the overall market. All those products are making our ambient more present and increase our life quality.
Sources of knockoffs are gray markets present inside but especially lately all around the world. The market for candles and home fragrances reached $8.4 billion last year, a 14 percent increase from the previous year, according to Unity Marketing Inc. in Stevens, Pa. Imitators are rushing to get significant part of the pie especially targeting online buyers. The firm found that 80 percent of all adult Americans purchased a home fragrance product in the past year, including candles and candle accessories, sprays, plug-ins, room fresheners, potpourris, air fresheners, and air purifiers.
Original or imitation the question is now? Optional: Possible but not necessary; left to personal choice. MEANING YOU DON’T PAY FOR IT IF YOU DON’T WANT IT. SO GET OVER YOURSELF.
Only to mention few main reasons against fake perfumes and why always buy from trusted perfume stores:
- It brings health risks;
- Consumers are sometimes not aware of it so overpay things of much lower quality, sometimes totally useless;
- It devalues you as a person in your own eyes…
just to mention some.
Low quality candle was found to be considerably higher in carcinogenic polycyclic hydrocarbons than air beside roads traveled by 45,000 vehicles daily. Free radicals are highly reactive molecules that damage lung including those connected with major respiratory conditions such as asthma and chronic bronchitis.
The therapeutic qualities of plants may be totally ruined with bad synthetic copies of perfumes. “The recipes for our fragrances are our trade secret, our know-how, the very essence of our profession,” Francis Thibaudeau, chairman of the Perfumers’ Society, told French La Chaine Info (LCI) television. But their main concern is that it will make it easy for manufacturers of copycat perfumes to imitate their brands and that it could ruin the entire industry.
Research facts about perfumes, buy at trusted online perfume stores is best advice and avoid imitations because original is only one all copies are in the best-case average success.

There’s a huge difference between Grey Market perfumes and imitation perfumes. Grey Market perfumes are ones that might be original perfumes but they have been re-sold to another party. Either that or they have been re-packaged with a fragrance that is not authentic. Make sure that the perfume you buy comes from an AUTHORIZED retailer. Imitation perfume is a perfume that smells like the original but is in no way the original perfume.
I hear exactly what you mean! Even with scented candles it is important to consider brand vs price. For example, If you see unlabelled candles for sale online, it is important to note the details of the product in its description. If it doesn’t indicate burn time, or if there are essential oils, or the type of wax, many times the product can be inferior. Always not deatils and ensure that the product performs as advertised! Great tips!
